Bermuda Smash match rained off
Persistent rainfall at North Field, inside the National Sports Centre, forced the Bermuda Smash Invitational clash between the Hamilton Parish Hurricanes and Smith’s Sixers to be abandoned before a ball was bowled. Officials called off the start scheduled for 4pm as conditions remained unsuitable for play.
Under the event’s playing conditions, both teams were awarded five points from the abandoned match. The decision preserves the schedule and keeps the group-stage competition moving, even as weather wipes out a planned contest.
In the current standings, the Pembroke Panthers sit atop the four-team table with 20 points, followed by the Hurricanes on 15 and the Sandys Spartans on 10. The Smith’s Sixers remain at the bottom with five points, still seeking their first win in this edition.
The Hurricanes had been aiming to rebound after a 54-run defeat to the Panthers in their previous outing. Smith’s Sixers opened their campaign with a seven-wicket loss to the Panthers and then fell by a similar margin to the Spartans the following day.
If weather permits, Wednesday’s 4pm fixture would see the Panthers try to extend their lead as they meet the Spartans, who occupy third place with ten points. Organisers are expected to confirm the semi-final fixtures once the group stage wraps on Wednesday, with the matches to decide the finalists slated for Friday and the title decider the following day.
