Bangladesh to implement special security plan for general election
Bangladesh is preparing a nine-day security operation ahead of the general election scheduled for February next year. Officials say the plan is flexible and could be adjusted in response to how events unfold across the country.
At present, about 30,000 army personnel are on standby to assist with security for the electoral process, with the scale expected to rise to around 100,000 to ensure a safe environment for voters, candidates, and polling centers. Other security forces — including paramilitary units and police — will participate to support the operation and maintain public order during the campaign period and on election day.
Security planners stressed that the operation will be coordinated across multiple agencies and may be amended if conditions change. The goal is to create a stable setting that protects voters and maintains electoral integrity while allowing the campaign and voting to proceed smoothly.
The timing and scope of the plan reflect the importance placed on an orderly and transparent voting process, with authorities underscoring readiness to adapt as needed.
