Did Nostradamus Predict Pope Francis Would Die In 2025?

Recently, a buzz has emerged online regarding a supposed prophecy by Nostradamus about the death of Pope Francis in 2025. Intrigued by the commotion, I delved into the matter to uncover the facts and share them with you.

The foundation of these claims resides in Nostradamus’ 1555 publication, Les Prophéties. In this work, he purportedly declared: “Through the death of a very old Pontiff / A Roman of good age will be elected / Of him it will be said that he weakens his seat / But long will he sit and in mordant activity.” Essentially, Nostradamus foresaw the demise of an elderly pope at some indeterminate point in the future.

Does such a prediction truly come as a shock? It doesn’t take someone with Nostradamus’ renown to reasonably predict that, someday, an aged pope will pass away. The question remains, does this prophecy specifically refer to Pope Francis?

The connection between Nostradamus’ words and Pope Francis is tenuous at best. The only potential link is the mention of an elderly pontiff, which doesn’t uniquely identify Francis. The prophecy could theoretically apply to any number of elderly popes throughout history or in the future.

While the first part of the prophecy seems vague, the subsequent part is intriguing. To revisit: “Through the death of a very old Pontiff / A Roman of good age will be elected / Of him it will be said that he weakens his seat / But long will he sit and in mordant activity.”

If Pope Francis’ successor turns out to be Roman, of relatively younger age, and experiences a divisive tenure that destabilizes the Vatican’s authority, only then might Nostradamus’ prophetic words carry more significance.

Moving on, experts have speculated that the famed French seer Michel de Nostredame, or Nostradamus, might indeed have prophesied the death of Pope Francis and foreseen his successor. Famously dubbed the “prophet of doom,” Nostradamus has been credited, at times dubiously, with predicting notable events such as the Great Fire of London, Hitler’s regime, the 9/11 attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic, and even the intense earthquake that struck Japan on New Year’s Day in recent years.

The latest prophecy attributed to him touches upon the precarious condition of Pope Francis: “Through the death of a very old Pontiff… a Roman of good age will be elected. Of him it will be said that he weakens his see… but long will he sit and in biting activity.” Nostradamus further added: “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.”

As of now, Pope Francis has been hospitalized for ten days due to lung infection complications, leading to early-stage kidney failure, according to the Vatican. The 88-year-old remains in a critical state but is reportedly in good spirits. Medical authorities have expressed concern over his unstable condition, citing his advanced age, frailty, and existing lung issues as contributing factors.

Various other prophecies posit that the next pope might be a “Black Pope,” while other predictions insist Francis is the final pope. Clearly, these claims contradict one another, and they cannot all be accurate. The mystery surrounding Nostradamus and the papal lineage remains just that—a mystery.
