The virtual world of Minecraft is on the brink of a significant transformation, with both the Bedrock and Java Editions poised to receive the “Chase the Skies” update. This forthcoming release promises a plethora of new features, destined to redefine the gameplay experience. A standout feature of the “Chase the Skies” update is the introduction of “Vibrant Visuals,” a visual enhancement set to debut in the Bedrock Edition. Announced during a live event in March 2025, this marks Mojang’s inaugural leap into a visual overhaul.
Developed on Mojang’s advanced graphics engine, Render Dragon, “Vibrant Visuals” introduces directional lighting and shadows, screen space reflections, specular highlights on block textures, emissive textures, and more. This substantial graphics upgrade parallels the scale of an independent update.
While “Vibrant Visuals” enjoys focused promotion, indicating its significance, this component still remains part of the broader “Chase the Skies” bundle. On its own, it stands as a monumental change, but combined with the rest of the features, it enhances the series of updates as a whole.
The complementary aspects of the “Chase the Skies” update include an array of exciting additions like the dried ghast, ghastling, and happy ghast, as well as new game mechanics such as the harness, player locator bar, “the tears” music disc, and modifications to leads and saddles. Furthermore, players can look forward to innovative cloud patterns, among other changes.
While some elements of these upcoming features were first highlighted during Minecraft’s 2025 live showcase in March, others have gradually made their way into early snapshots and beta versions as Mojang has continued development and refinement of the update.
