Starcraft gets the remastered treatment this summer – Blast Magazine
Blizzard is revving up for a summer release of a remastered edition of the 1998 real-time strategy classic. The package will sharpen textures and scale the visuals up to 4K, while keeping the core experience that defined competitive RTS on PC. Both the single-player campaigns and the multiplayer battlegrounds are getting a modern polish, with improvements designed to run smoothly on current hardware.
The team describes the update as a faithful modernization: players will notice richer art and improved audio, but the underlying gameplay, balance, and pacing stay true to how the game played two decades ago. By preserving the original engine’s feel, veterans can jump back in without being faced with unfamiliar or altered mechanics.
Beyond graphics, the remaster brings updated sound design and more robust online features to align with today’s online ecosystems. The re-release also includes a straightforward way to access the classic experience, with the original version planned to be available as a free download on March 30 for those who want to revisit the 800×600 era.
Industry watchers are curious to see if this revival could spark renewed interest in Blizzard’s RTS catalog, with some hoping the momentum might eventually pave the way for a proper Warcraft III sequel in the near future.
