Trump Lifts Nvidia Chip Restrictions to China, Raising Concerns
In a surprising move, President Donald Trump’s administration has reportedly decided to ease previously imposed federal restrictions on selling some of Nvidia’s advanced AI semiconductor chips to China. This decision has sparked discussions about its potential impact on the United States’ position in the global race for artificial intelligence supremacy.
The announcement came not from the White House but surfaced after discussions between Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, Trump, and senior Beijing officials. According to Nvidia, the U.S. government has assured the company that the licensing process for selling its H20 GPU chips in China will proceed without hindrance. This marks a significant shift in policy as Nvidia prepares to reapply for the ability to cater to the Chinese market. The semiconductor company also highlighted its efforts in creating a new AI-friendly GPU, compliant with U.S. regulations, aimed at enhancing AI system capabilities worldwide.
