Maharashtra Revolutionizes Land Conversion with Online System | Science-Environment

Maharashtra has rolled out a fully online mechanism for non-agricultural land conversion, integrating payments directly into the state’s Building Permission Management System (BPMS). The upgrade is designed to cut red tape, reduce in-person visits to government offices, and deliver faster, more transparent permissions for development projects across the state.

The core change lies in the seamless integration of the conversion premium payment into BPMS. Applicants can now complete the required payment online, with the transaction instantly reflected in the relevant land title records. By connecting payments, permissions, and documentation in one place, the system removes manual bottlenecks that often slow down land use approvals.

According to the government, the BPMS platform has also been positioned as a single-window interface for securing development permissions and building plan approvals, substantially simplifying the path from application to authorization.
