WandaVision Just Shared a VisionQuest Image (& May Have Teased Tommy’s True Role)
VisionQuest is only two episodes in, but Marvel fans are already dissecting every frame for clues. The latest spark came from an image shared by the official WandaVision Instagram account, and it may point to a major emotional arc for Vision — one centered on Tommy.
The post has naturally fueled even more speculation about Wanda Maximoff’s future. Between the artwork of Wanda and Vision seen in the in-universe VisionQuest exhibit and earlier dialogue hinting that something always survives when a witch is involved, fans have been quick to theorize that Wanda could return. That remains unconfirmed, but even without her physically stepping back into the story, the series appears to be laying important groundwork through the characters already on screen.
One detail in the newly shared image stands out. The shot captures Vision seeing Tommy, and the section of Vision’s forehead designed to resemble the Mind Stone glows yellow. Of course, there is no actual Infinity Stone there anymore, which makes the visual especially striking. Rather than being a random stylistic beat, it could be hinting at something deeper: Tommy may be the catalyst for Vision reclaiming the humanity he lost as White Vision.
Vision and Tommy’s story is already heading somewhere unexpected
Before the premiere, trailers suggested that Vision and Tommy would reunite, leading many viewers to assume that Tommy would be the center of Vision’s “quest.” But the opening two episodes quickly overturned that expectation. Instead of stretching out the search, the show brings the father and son together almost immediately.
That creative choice changes the meaning of the title in an important way. If Vision’s mission is not simply to find Tommy, then his true journey is likely internal. After everything the character has endured across the MCU — death, resurrection, and rebirth as White Vision — the series seems more interested in asking who Vision is now.
That is where Tommy becomes especially important. Wanda was the figure who originally helped make Vision more than a machine; their relationship gave him warmth, empathy, and a distinctly human emotional core. White Vision, by contrast, has memory and intellect but often feels disconnected from that inner life. In that context, Tommy may not just be part of the plot — he may be the mechanism through which Vision rebuilds himself.
The glowing “Mind Stone” may be the biggest clue yet
The Instagram image seems to reinforce that reading. If Vision’s faux Mind Stone lights up in Tommy’s presence, the show may be visually linking fatherhood to personhood. In other words, Tommy could be activating something in Vision that logic alone cannot restore.
The first two episodes already support that theory. Even while insisting he is not really Tommy’s father, Vision begins behaving like one almost immediately. In the same scene highlighted by the social media post, he notices that Tommy is frightened by his White Vision appearance and shifts into a more human-looking form. It is a small but telling act of care, one rooted not in programming but in emotional awareness.
Moments later, he protects Tommy more directly, physically moving him out of danger. Again, the series is making a point: before Vision fully accepts the label of “father,” he is already instinctively acting like one.
What Tommy’s real role in VisionQuest could be
From a storytelling perspective, this would be a smart direction for Marvel. Rather than making Tommy a passive objective for Vision to locate, the show appears to be positioning him as an active force in Vision’s transformation. That gives their relationship much more weight and makes VisionQuest about emotional reconstruction instead of just plot mechanics.
It also fits a long-standing Marvel pattern: identity in the MCU is rarely recovered through data or memory alone. Characters rediscover themselves through connection, sacrifice, and family. If VisionQuest follows that model, Tommy may be the person who helps Vision bridge the gap between what he remembers and what he feels.
That does not mean Wanda is out of the equation. In fact, all the Wanda-related imagery and references may be there to remind viewers of what Vision once had — and what he is now trying to regain in a different form. But if these early episodes and this latest image are any indication, Tommy could be the emotional center of that recovery.
With the season still unfolding, Marvel has plenty of room to expand that dynamic. For now, though, one thing looks increasingly clear: Tommy’s true role in VisionQuest may not be to be found by Vision, but to help rebuild him.
