Oyo State was established on February 3, 1976, following the dissolution of the former Western State. The upcoming 2026 anniversary marks five decades since the creation, a milestone the administration hopes to honor through reflective programs, cultural showcase, and statewide engagement.
The governor emphasized that the planning body should collaborate closely with relevant ministries, agencies, and diverse stakeholders to ensure broad participation in the anniversary programs. The terms of reference include developing a distinctive theme and visual identity for Oyo @ 50, coordinating activities, and forging partnerships with corporate entities, traditional authorities, and community organizations. The goal is to highlight the state’s historical achievements, cultural heritage, and developmental milestones while encouraging inclusive participation across all localities.
The assignment is effective immediately, with the panel expected to present an initial plan within a defined timeframe.
