Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 fans think V briefly appears in the new season, and it could mean female V is canon

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 may have quietly brought the protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077 into the anime. A brief image in the fourth episode has sparked speculation that V appears among Arasaka’s targets—and that the series may favor the female version of the character.

The scene unfolds as D. and Roman break into an Arasaka data archive. Their objective is to identify the people behind the slaughter of D.’s Snake Nation clan, but the mission leads Capri to information concerning Project Capricorn. One display shows several individuals apparently wanted by the corporation.

Alongside recognizable faces such as D. and first-season protagonist David Martinez is a portrait bearing a striking resemblance to the default female V from Cyberpunk 2077.

Is the mysterious portrait really V?

The picture is only a simplified illustration, leaving room for debate. Nevertheless, its hairstyle, facial details and general silhouette closely resemble female V’s promotional design. Arasaka’s interest would also fit the story: Project Capricorn seemingly requires subjects capable of tolerating extraordinary levels of cyberware, something V repeatedly demonstrates throughout the game.

If intentional, the cameo could suggest that female V is the version recognized within the wider continuity. That would be a notable decision because Cyberpunk 2077 lets players choose V’s appearance, gender, background and major story outcomes.

However, the image does not necessarily settle the question. Small visual differences could indicate that it depicts another character, while the crowded display appears to contain several references intended primarily as Easter eggs. Possible nods include Dum Dum, Evelyn Parker and Melissa Rory, the Mantis Blade-wielding cyberpsycho associated with the game’s early promotional material.

For that reason, the portrait may simply reward attentive viewers rather than establish one definitive version of V. Keeping the reference ambiguous would allow the anime to acknowledge the game without invalidating players’ individual choices.

More connections to Cyberpunk 2077

The suspected V appearance is not the season’s only link to the game. Soulkiller technology also plays an important role in the new storyline. In Cyberpunk 2077, related technology places Johnny Silverhand’s digital consciousness inside V’s mind. Edgerunners 2 explores a comparable conflict as the construct Capri becomes increasingly intertwined with D.

The crossover is also extending back into the game through an Edgerunners 2-inspired update. Its additions include expanded cyberware customization and a dual-wielding combat style, further connecting the anime’s characters and technology with the interactive version of Night City.

Whether the portrait is a genuine cameo or a carefully placed visual joke remains unresolved. Still, its resemblance to female V is strong enough to reignite the long-running discussion over whether Cyberpunk will ever choose a canonical identity for the mercenary.
