Forever Ago Launches October 8, 2026, for Switch 2 and Consoles – Archyde

Annapurna Interactive and indie studio Third Shift are setting the stage for Forever Ago, a narrative adventure heading to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store on October 8, 2026.

A cross-country journey about grief and second chances

Forever Ago is the first full release from Third Shift, a two-person team with a laser focus on character-driven storytelling. You play as Alfred, a man still reeling from a life-altering loss, who points his aging minivan north and chases a sliver of hope. With an instant camera in hand, he winds through towering forests, sun-bleached deserts, and jagged mountain passes—each stretch of road peeling back another layer of his past.

Expect quiet moments with strangers as much as the roar of the highway. Conversations, found objects, and environmental details invite players to piece together lives beyond their own. It’s a slow-burn odyssey, intimate and reflective, where small discoveries carry heavy emotional weight.

Snapshots that shape the world

Photography isn’t just flavor—it’s the spine of the experience. Alfred’s instant camera doubles as a problem-solving device and a diary of fleeting moments. Photos you capture can reveal hidden paths, trigger mechanisms, or serve as keys to environmental puzzles, while also cataloging the memories that push Alfred forward.

Gameplay blends third-person exploration with tactile object inspection. By examining mementos and landmarks, players unlock new dialogue and story threads. Themes of memory, loss, and the possibility of redemption ripple through the narrative, including an intimate portrait of Alfred’s bond with Audrey—an attachment that lingers stubbornly in the present even as time keeps moving.

The cast is performed by professional voice actors, with English voiceover at launch. Specific casting details are still under wraps.

A debut built on narrative craft

Third Shift’s compact team uses its scale as an advantage, channeling effort into grounded writing, purposeful mechanics, and a sense of place that makes every mile feel lived-in. The studio’s design leans into contemplative pacing—letting you linger, look closer, and let the journey do its quiet work.

Sound that steers the mood

Composer Clark Aboud shapes the game’s sonic identity with an original score. Known for evocative work on projects like Slay the Spire, Kind Words, and VIDEOVERSE, Aboud’s compositions promise a soundscape that can cradle the game’s softer beats and press on the bruise when emotions crest—guideposts for the long road Alfred travels.
