It seems that Hollow Knight: Silksong enthusiasts might have gotten caught up in a swirling vortex of speculation only to discover that a new fan theory about a cake recipe was, in essence, without substance.

Ever since Team Cherry unveiled the ambitious vision for Hollow Knight: Silksong as a standalone sequel, diverging from its initial concept as downloadable content for the original game, anticipation has been mounting. Fast forward six years, and although there have been some whispers about potential platforms and unfortunate delays, an official release date remains elusive. Excitement reached a fever pitch recently when eagle-eyed fans spotted a curious update: a Team Cherry member unveiled a new Discord profile picture featuring a slice of chocolate cake. What made this particularly intriguing was the image’s origin, linked to a recipe set to be published on April 2, 2024—the same day pegged for the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.

Fans quickly began to speculate, seeing this as a cryptic clue indicating a potential announcement for Silksong’s release during the Nintendo Direct. But, alas, this theory appears to lack foundation. It now seems plausible that this was mere coincidence, or perhaps a playful misdirection by the Team Cherry member, assuming they even knew about the April Direct date beforehand.

To bring some clarity to the situation, a communication channel was established through a well-known Hollow Knight content creator who took to social media to clarify matters. According to this source, Matthew Griffin, the marketing and publishing manager for Hollow Knight: Silksong, confirmed directly that no alternate reality game (ARG) was in play, and that the Discord update was inconsequential—a “nothingburger,” as it was termed. The reference to cake? Simply a bit of frivolity rather than fact. “”

In a series of follow-up exchanges, one inquisitive fan sought direct confirmation from Griffin on whether the game is making any substantial progress or is even a reality. Griffin succinctly replied, assuring fans, “Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release.” While this doesn’t satisfy the yearning for a definitive release date, it does reinforce that patience may eventually bear fruit when it comes to Silksong.

Though the cake theory has turned out to be an imaginative detour, the commitment to bringing Silksong to life remains unwavering. For now, fans must embrace the anticipation and hold onto the hope that the long-awaited sequel will indeed make its way into players’ hands.
