Ex-Fable devs’ Stardew Valley-like is coming to consoles in August
A bright, cozy life sim that nods to Stardew Valley is making its way to consoles this summer. The project comes from PixelCount Studios, founded by two veterans of the Fable-era Lionhead team.
Set to launch on August 4 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, Kynseed invites players to grow a family lineage, run storefronts, explore a world called Quill, and now manage a tavern—the latter a new feature added for console players.
In this world, tavern management means inviting villagers through your doors, preparing meals and beverages, and hiring entertainers to conjure a warm, bustling atmosphere. The tavern is designed as a calm, candlelit haven that complements the village’s daily bustle, while keeping things non-alcoholic for broader accessibility.
Though likened to a Stardew Valley-style game, Kynseed blends farming, crafting, and relationship-building with a darker, fairy-tale vibe. Players will also contend with an invading Hob faction that uses dark magic to craft ominous totems. These totems disrupt crops and structures, providing a subtle undercurrent of threat amid the game’s pastoral routines.
Prices on consoles are expected to align with the game’s PC price, around $25, making it an approachable entry point for players curious about a more fantastical life sim with bite.
As consoles prepare to host a wider audience, Kynseed stands out by balancing cozy life-sim elements with a narrative that’s more shadowed than typical entries in the genre. Fans of thoughtful world-building, careful farming, and character-driven storytelling can look forward to a refreshed, console-ready experience this August.
