Presidency Dismisses Atiku’s 2027 Ambition As ‘Joke’
The presidency has dismissed rumors that a former vice president could contest the nation’s top office in 2027, calling the bid a joke and urging focus on pending legal cases.
Speaking to members of the Jigawa State Academics Forum, Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, the presidential adviser to President Tinubu, argued that such a plan would not endure if pursued out of desperation.
Masari suggested that Atiku Abubakar himself understands that the move amounts to more of a show than a credible campaign, and he reaffirmed the ruling party’s edge in the political landscape.
The adviser framed the forthcoming vote as a choice between persisting with the current administration’s agenda and a return to the opposition, highlighting ongoing investments in infrastructure, economic diversification, security improvements, and poverty reduction as the administration’s priorities.
He also expressed appreciation for the Jigawa State Academics Forum’s endorsement of President Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi for another term, noting that education remains a central focus at the federal level with a stabilised academic calendar and expanded access to federal student loans.
As parties accelerate preparations for the 2027 race, the remarks underscore the administration’s effort to present the election as a referendum on continuity versus change.
