WOTR’s FarmPrecise App Reaches 100,000 Downloads, Slashes Farming Costs by 20% with AI-driven, Real-time Advice

The digital revolution in agriculture has taken another leap forward with the FarmPrecise app, developed by the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR). This innovative digital tool now boasts over 100,000 downloads, providing farmers in India with real-time, AI-powered insights that have significantly reduced input costs by up to 20%.

This achievement marks a pivotal moment in WOTR’s mission to enhance the livelihoods of smallholder farmers through technology-driven, climate-smart solutions. Available in Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh, FarmPrecise supports an impressive 38 crops and is accessible in five regional languages: English, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, and Odia. This multilingual capability ensures that a wide range of farmers can easily navigate and benefit from the app.

FarmPrecise was born out of WOTR’s dedication to empowering farmers with data-informed decision-making tools. By delivering highly localized and actionable information, the app helps farmers optimize their resources and cultivate productivity despite the challenges posed by climate variability.

At its core, FarmPrecise leverages scientific models and meteorological data to offer profound insights. The app’s suite of services include AI-driven recommendations for crop and nutrient management, precision fertiliser planning, five-day weather forecasts, and dynamic market price updates. Furthermore, it houses a digital repository of pest and disease management strategies, enabling farmers to safeguard their crops proactively.

Innovative features of FarmPrecise further boost its utility for farmers. The app contains Krishi Manch, a unique platform designed for in-depth interactions between farmers and experts, fostering a sense of community and continuous learning. It also incorporates a module linking farmers to collective procurement and marketing opportunities with Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), improving market access and profitability.

Prakash Keskar, the Executive Director of WOTR, expressed the significance of this accomplishment stating, “With nearly 65% of India’s population residing in rural areas and heavily reliant on agriculture, it is crucial to provide these communities with practical and localized digital tools. FarmPrecise successfully integrates traditional farming practices with cutting-edge technology, allowing farmers to make informed decisions that enhance their economic standing.”

As WOTR looks to the future, plans are underway to extend FarmPrecise’s reach to 500,000 farmers across eight states in the upcoming years. The organisation is investing in integrating further advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and remote sensing. These enhancements aim to amplify the platform’s capability of delivering hyper-local, predictive, and real-time support, fostering resilience and innovation in India’s agricultural framework.

With each download, FarmPrecise takes a step closer to revolutionizing Indian agriculture, offering farmers the tools they need to thrive in an ever-evolving environment.
