A new challenge joins Scandinavian Days in Story City

Story City leans deeper into its Nordic roots this year by introducing a lutefisk contest to Scandinavian Days, adding a playful twist to the weekend’s lineup.

Lutefisk is dried cod that has been softened in a lye-based solution, a preservation method dating back to a time before refrigeration. Bold volunteers will put their palates to the test at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at the Roland-Story Sports Complex.

The festival itself stretches over Friday and Saturday, offering a variety of activities that celebrate Nordic heritage beyond the tasting challenge. Attendees can look forward to demonstrations, music, crafts, and other family-friendly experiences that showcase the region’s Scandinavian traditions.
