Uttar Pradesh Emerging as an AI-Skilled State

Under the visionary guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is swiftly transitioning to become a leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) within India. By integrating AI across various essential sectors such as education, security, agriculture, administration, and industry, the state is paving the way for a technologically-empowered society.

A significant milestone in this transformation is the launch of India’s first AI-Enhanced Multidisciplinary University in Unnao, along the bustling Lucknow-Kanpur corridor. This institution marks the beginning of a new era for Uttar Pradesh, one poised to cultivate an AI-ready workforce, potentially positioning the state as a central player in the global tech landscape.

The state’s flagship initiative, AI Pragya, aims to train 10 lakh young people, educators, village leaders, government officials, and farmers in specialized areas like AI, data analytics, machine learning, and cybersecurity. This ambitious training program, backed by major tech firms, targets engaging 1.5 lakh individuals every month, focusing on sectors such as Education, Health, Agriculture, Rural Development, Revenue, and Secretariat Administration. Upon completion, participants receive certifications that enhance their industry readiness.

On the safety front, the Safe City Project incorporates AI-enhanced CCTV systems capable of number plate recognition, SOS alerts, and facial recognition. These advanced components, implemented across 17 municipal corporations, are linked with emergency helplines and police control rooms to ensure round-the-clock surveillance and protection for vulnerable groups such as women, seniors, and children.

In the realm of agriculture, the UP-AGRIS project seeks to revolutionize farming for 10 lakh farmers through AI-driven techniques. Supported by a substantial budget and strategic partnerships, it integrates tools like smart irrigation systems, drone-based mapping, and AI-enabled pest detection. The initiative also extends support to 10,000 women’s self-help groups and offers farmer-producer organizations access to digital marketplaces, facilitating broader economic inclusivity.

For land management, the Revenue Department employs satellite imagery and AI solutions to streamline land consolidation and record management. This ensures equitable, efficient, and conflict-free land distribution, while also enabling digital village-level mapping.

In the correctional system, Uttar Pradesh has implemented the AI-powered ‘Jarvis’ surveillance across all 70 state prisons. This technology meticulously monitors inmate activities, marking a significant advancement in transparency and the management of prison facilities.

The Geology and Mining Department is leveraging technology to supervise mining operations meticulously. Innovations such as geo-fencing of mining zones, camera-integrated weighbridges, and RFID-tagged vehicles facilitate effective mineral transport tracking. Furthermore, with the installation of 57 IoT/AI-based verification gates across 25 districts, the department ensures comprehensive real-time monitoring through its centralized command center.

Uttar Pradesh’s integration of advanced AI technologies in multifaceted areas highlights its commitment to becoming a pioneering state in technological advancement. With these developments, the state is well on its way to becoming a beacon of AI excellence on a national and international scale.
