Flowers unable to overcome QB disaster vs. Bills
Zay Flowers endured a frustrating afternoon in Baltimore’s Week 8 defeat to Buffalo, finishing without a reception on five targets.
The Ravens’ passing game unraveled almost immediately. Lamar Jackson left after just one play with a thumb injury, leaving Tyler Huntley to take over at quarterback. Huntley later exited midway through the second quarter because of a toe issue, forcing Baltimore to turn to rookie undrafted free agent Joe Fagnano.
Four of Flowers’ five targets arrived after Fagnano entered the game. Although some of the throws were catchable, the rookie quarterback and the Ravens’ receivers could not establish any rhythm. Flowers ultimately finished the game without a catch, producing a rare scoreless outing despite remaining involved in the offense.
The situation could become even more difficult for Baltimore. The Ravens face Jacksonville on a short week, and Fagnano may be asked to make his first career start. A full week of preparation should give the offense more stability than it had during Sunday’s emergency quarterback shuffle, but expectations should remain modest.
Flowers remains an important part of Baltimore’s attack and should have a better chance to rebound against the Jaguars. However, the uncertainty under center makes him a risky fantasy option. Until the quarterback situation becomes clearer, Flowers should be viewed as a lower-end WR3 rather than a dependable weekly starter.
