5×5 Raises the Bar in Distributed AI Micro Edge, Appointing Industry Expert to Lead Next Wave of Wireless Analytics
5×5 Technologies is sharpening its push into distributed AI infrastructure with the appointment of veteran engineer and product leader Pankaj Taneja, P.E., as Director of AI Micro Edge Intelligence Platforms. Reporting directly to CEO Anne Zink, Taneja steps into a role designed to help turn 5×5’s software platform into a core intelligence layer for the next generation of wireless and edge-network expansion.
The Florida-based company said the hire supports its broader strategy of helping telecom operators, governments, and infrastructure partners make better decisions about where and how to deploy distributed AI micro edge systems. In practical terms, that means using software, analytics, and systems integration to determine which sites are best suited for low-latency AI compute and how those sites can be upgraded efficiently.
Zink framed the hire as part of a bigger shift already underway across telecom and digital infrastructure.

Taneja brings more than two decades of experience spanning structural engineering, infrastructure software, product management, and telecom standards. He most recently held leadership positions at Bentley Systems, where he worked on technology and workflows tied to telecom tower assets facing successive waves of network modernization, from 4G and 5G to AI-driven infrastructure demands.
At 5×5, he will shape the product roadmap and technical direction for the company’s Distributed AI Micro Edge portfolio. His remit includes building out a reference architecture that spans both Tower Edge and Campus Edge environments. The goal is to help customers scale deployments that transform conventional wireless facilities into high-value infrastructure nodes positioned close to end users, where real-time and low-latency AI processing is increasingly needed.
That mission is becoming more relevant as the AI boom drives interest in compute closer to the edge of the network. Enterprises and public-sector operators alike are looking beyond centralized data centers toward distributed architectures that can support time-sensitive workloads. For wireless site owners, that creates an opportunity: towers and campus-based assets may no longer be viewed only as connectivity infrastructure, but also as potential hubs for AI-enabled services.
5×5 is betting that the difficult part of that transition will not simply be adding hardware. It will be understanding the physical and operational realities of each site well enough to make sound deployment decisions. Taneja’s background appears tailored to that challenge.
Over his career, he has worked across user success, design engineering, and product leadership in both U.S. and international markets. His expertise includes digital twins, automated structural analysis workflows, and AI/ML applications for physical-asset detection. He has also contributed to quality assurance and technical verification for tower products, in addition to standards work tied to TIA-222, Eurocode, and Australia’s AS3995/AS4100 frameworks.
For 5×5 customers, the value proposition is straightforward: use intelligent analytics to accelerate decisions around site suitability, siting strategies, and equipment placement. That could be especially valuable for tower companies, carriers, and infrastructure investors trying to digitize portfolios and extract new value from existing assets without slowing deployment cycles.
