YouGov Voices expands: AI qual interviews now available for custom research clients, showing the “why” behind the numbers — at scale
YouGov has expanded YouGov Voices, its AI-moderated qualitative interviewing tool, to custom research clients, giving brands and researchers a way to pair large-scale survey results with deeper, conversational insight.
The move builds on the earlier rollout of BrandIndex Voices, which introduced AI-powered interviews to YouGov’s brand tracking users. Now, the same approach is being brought into the wider custom research ecosystem, letting clients explore not just what respondents say, but why they think and behave that way.
In practice, YouGov Voices adds an optional qualitative layer to a standard survey. After, or during, a quantitative questionnaire, respondents can opt into an additional conversation moderated by AI. Instead of presenting a rigid list of open-ended prompts, the system responds dynamically, asking follow-up questions in real time based on each participant’s answers.
That conversational format is designed to surface motivations, sentiment, and reasoning that conventional survey data can miss. For research teams, it promises a faster route from topline metrics to the underlying attitudes driving them.
Once interviews are complete, the platform automatically analyzes transcripts, identifies recurring themes, and produces an executive summary. Clients can also review full respondent transcripts, allowing them to move from synthesized findings to source material without switching tools.
Crucially, all of this sits inside Crunch, YouGov’s existing analysis platform. That means qualitative findings can be reviewed alongside quantitative data and filtered by demographics or audience segments, helping teams compare how different groups explain their views.
The product is now available in the US, UK, and Australia.
For YouGov, the launch is part of a broader effort to blend automation with panel-based research. The company says YouGov Voices is powered by its proprietary global panel of more than 30 million members, giving clients access to verified respondents whose answers can be interpreted in the context of broader survey data.
“The launch of YouGov Voices means custom research clients can now combine the scale of quantitative research with the depth of genuine human conversation,” said Stephan Shakespeare, CEO and co-founder of YouGov. “It means clients move from a survey result to a rich qualitative explanation without leaving their existing workflow.”
The pitch is clear: keep the efficiency and statistical strength of quant research, while using AI to unlock the texture typically associated with traditional qualitative work. In a market where research teams are under pressure to deliver insight faster, that combination could prove attractive.
More broadly, the rollout highlights how AI is being positioned not simply as a back-end analytics tool, but as an active participant in research workflows. By moderating conversations, summarizing interviews, and linking findings directly to survey outputs, YouGov is betting that AI can help scale qualitative insight in ways that were previously too slow or costly.
If it works as intended, YouGov Voices could narrow one of market research’s oldest gaps: the distance between measuring an opinion and understanding the human reasoning behind it.
