ASUS Launches ZenWiFi BD4 Outdoor for Secure Outdoor WiFi 7 Coverage with IP65 Protection
ASUS is extending high-speed home networking beyond the front door with the ZenWiFi BD4 Outdoor, a WiFi 7 mesh node engineered for patios, gardens, driveways, and other exposed areas. It brings indoor-grade performance to the outdoors, delivering dual-band WiFi 7 throughput up to 3600 Mbps and seamless integration with existing AiMesh systems for broad, consistent coverage across the property.
WiFi 7 performance, outside
The ZenWiFi BD4 Outdoor taps into WiFi 7’s efficiency and speed, pairing Multi-Link Operation (MLO) with 4K QAM to improve stability and latency under mixed loads. Whether it’s streaming from the pool deck, syncing outdoor cameras, or automating garden lights, the node can extend an AiMesh network by up to roughly 2530 square feet, ensuring dead zones around the yard are minimized.
Weatherproofed and installation-friendly
Designed for year-round use, the unit is housed in an IP65-rated enclosure that shields internal components from dust and water jets. It’s built to keep working through temperature swings—from frigid winters at around -30°C to sweltering summers up to 60°C—making it a fit for a wide variety of climates.
Mounting is flexible out of the box: the included hardware supports walls, poles, or flat surfaces, so you can place it where signal is needed most. For wiring, two 2.5G ports with PoE+ support (and auto-WAN detection) allow a single Ethernet cable to provide both data and power, reducing clutter and simplifying installs. Prefer a standard power setup? An AC adapter option is included as well.
Security you can set and forget
Network protection is built in. AiProtection Pro adds commercial-grade safeguards, while parental controls help manage screen time and content. If you rely on VPNs for remote access or privacy, the BD4 Outdoor supports popular providers out of the box, easing setup. For households with lots of connected gadgets, the Smart Home Master feature lets you create up to three separate SSIDs—ideal for isolating outdoor cameras, smart locks, or lighting from personal devices to tighten security and keep things organized.
Indoor vs. Outdoor BD4: what changes
- Same wireless brainpower: Both the indoor BD4 and BD4 Outdoor are WiFi 7 (802.11be), dual-band (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), and rated up to 3600 Mbps. Both also slot into AiMesh, enabling unified management and roaming.
- Coverage boost: Either unit can extend coverage by up to approximately 2530 sq. ft., depending on placement and environment.
- Built for the elements: The Outdoor version adds IP65 protection and a much wider operating temperature range (-30°C to 60°C) compared to typical indoor hardware.
- Power and ports: Both offer two 2.5G WAN/LAN ports, but the Outdoor model supports PoE+ for single-cable power and data, as well as an AC adapter option.
- Hardware footprint: The Outdoor unit measures about 106 × 106 × 200 mm and weighs around 1040 g, with internal antennas tuned for exterior deployment.
- Security and smart features: AiProtection Pro, parental controls, VPN support, and up to three Smart Home SSIDs are standard across both versions.
- Pricing: The Outdoor model is listed at approximately $151 USD.
