Crossovers Storm Back vs Angels to Extend Battle for 3rd Series

In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers staged a spectacular comeback against the Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference. The intense match, held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, ended in a thrilling 16-25, 11-25, 25-13, 25-22, 18-16 victory for the Crossovers, effectively keeping their hopes alive for securing third place in the series.

From the onset, it appeared that Chery Tiggo was on the brink of losing the battle as Petro Gazz quickly bagged the first two sets, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18, hinting at a swift victory in their favor. However, what followed was nothing short of a volleyball marvel.

Eya Laure, the star of the night, was a beacon of hope for the Crossovers as she powered through with an incredible 26 points. Her remarkable performance, especially in the crucial final three sets, spearheaded the team’s awe-inspiring comeback from a daunting two-set deficit. Laure’s relentless spirit and formidable play were pivotal in turning the tides of the game.

As the match progressed, the Crossovers exhibited an unyielding spirit and a fierce determination to fight back. Despite being seemingly out of contention after the first two sets, the team rallied and showcased their prowess to claw back into the game, setting the stage for one of the most memorable rallies of the conference.

The turning point came in the deciding set when, against all odds, the Crossovers bounced back from an 8-6 trail, igniting a powerful run that ultimately clinched their victory. This win tied the series at 1-1, pushing the competition to a fever-pitch with a deciding Game Three set for Tuesday.

Reflecting on the team’s extraordinary comeback, Chery Tiggo coach Kungfu Reyes hailed it as a “redemption” and a significant morale booster. He emphasized the importance of pride in their performance, acknowledging the team’s capacity to initiate a strong start and rally from behind.

Supporting Laure in her stellar performance were Mylene Paat and Shaya Adorador, who contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively, from the bench. Jasmine Nabor also played a crucial role, delivering 11 sets and scoring nine points, some of which came at critical moments towards the end of the match.

Despite a valiant effort from the Angels, with Brooke Van Sickle leading the charge with a match-high 30 points and Jonah Sabete adding 18, they were unable to thwart the Crossover’s dramatic comeback.

As the Premier Volleyball League heads into a decisive third game, fans and spectators alike are eagerly awaiting to see if Chery Tiggo can carry forward their momentum and secure third place in the All-Filipino Conference, completing one of the most stirring comebacks in the league’s history.
