Special weather statement issued for much of Sask due to heat

A broad heat event is forecast to push across a large portion of Saskatchewan, bringing hot and muggy conditions that could last through the weekend and into early next week.

A regional alert indicates that the southern parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba will be affected, with the heat surge expected to begin Friday afternoon and persist for several days afterward.

Current projections show daytime readings around 30 C on Friday, climbing into the mid-30s by the end of the weekend. The humidity is expected to be notably uncomfortable in areas along and south of major travel corridors, with humidex values possibly reaching about 45 in the peak heat on Sunday.

While temperatures may ease somewhat at the start of next week, daytime highs are still anticipated to stay in the upper 20s to low 30s for most of the week.

Officials expect heat-related warnings to be issued as the event draws closer, so residents should stay tuned to local updates and plan accordingly.

In addition to the heat advisory, several other weather notices remain active in different parts of the province: a tornado watch is in effect for western and northern regions, thunderstorm watches cover the southwest and northern areas, and there is an air quality advisory for the far north.
