MGTO Ramps Up European Tourism Promotion
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is stepping up its efforts to attract more visitors from Europe by expanding its presence at this year’s Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR) in Madrid, Spain. This renowned trade fair acts as a global hub for tourism professionals, making it an ideal venue for MGTO’s enhanced promotional endeavors.
Led by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the agency has established a full-scale booth at FITUR for the first time since the pandemic. This initiative centers on the “Macao Tourism Exchange,” showcasing recent additions to Macau’s tourism portfolio while highlighting the destination’s allure for European travelers. In tandem with this, MGTO is rolling out targeted campaigns across Europe, leveraging partnerships with key tourism stakeholders and digital platforms.
A significant moment at the trade fair was the Macau Tourism Exchange session, where Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes declared that FITUR is merely the starting point of a broader campaign to capture the European market’s attention by the year 2025.
The MGTO booth includes an “Experience Macao” section that features an immersive virtual reality journey. This innovative display offers attendees a chance to explore Macau’s wide-ranging attractions, aiming to captivate travel operators and media personnel throughout the five-day event duration.
Joining forces with HBX Group, MGTO has announced a strategic 2025 marketing campaign targeting six key European countries: Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. As part of this initiative, prominent online platforms like Hotelbeds and Bedsonline will be utilized to educate European travel agents, airlines, and other sectors of the travel industry about the exclusive experiences that Macau has to offer.
In addition, MGTO is implementing a series of destination marketing strategies and exclusive hotel offerings. By working with platforms such as Travelport and eDreams ODIGEO, MGTO aims to boost sales and promote extended stays in Macau, thus offering tourists more time to enjoy what the region offers.
