EVgo Opens First Fast Charging Stations Through Toyota’s ‘Empact’ Vision

EVgo (EVGO) has announced the launch of its inaugural DC fast charging stations in Baldwin Park and Sacramento, California. This development is a significant milestone under Toyota’s (TM) “Empact” vision, marking a key step towards widespread accessibility to electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructures.

The new stations, proudly co-branded by EVgo and Toyota, are equipped to serve up to eight vehicles at once, boasting powerful 350kW fast chargers. This capacity ensures that EV drivers can charge their vehicles rapidly and efficiently, minimizing downtime and maximizing convenience.

Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, emphasized the importance of charging availability in influencing consumer decisions about buying or leasing electric vehicles: “Availability of charging is essential as consumers consider buying or leasing an EV. As automakers offer more electric vehicle choices, EVgo will continue deploying fast chargers for current and prospective EV drivers,” Levitan stated. “Collaboration with automakers has been core to our expansion over the last several years, and EVgo is grateful for the continued support from Toyota.”

First announced in April 2023, Toyota’s “Empact” vision is a strategic initiative focused on facilitating the shift of underserved communities towards a future where electrified vehicle transport is the norm. This vision aligns with Toyota’s broader mission to deliver “mobility for all,” aiming to bridge gaps in transportation accessibility and increase sustainability.

Under the “Empact” strategy, three primary objectives are targeted: access to charging, providing affordable mobility solutions, and reducing carbon emissions. The establishment of these new charging stations is a tangible step forward in achieving these goals, offering convenience and encouraging the adoption of EVs in the surrounding communities.

“Together with EVgo, we are supporting broader access to charging infrastructure for all battery EV drivers, including those driving Toyota and Lexus BEVs. We aim to ensure that customers find the newly opened stations both convenient and efficient for their charging needs,” said James George, General Manager of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota Motor North America.

The opening of these stations is pivotal not only in expanding charging accessibility but also in reinforcing the commitment of leading brands like EVgo and Toyota to sustainable and inclusive mobility solutions. By focusing on underserved communities, this project highlights the potential for such initiatives to catalyze widespread EV adoption, particularly in areas previously lacking sufficient infrastructure.

For EVgo, these new stations are a continuation of their efforts to maintain a pioneering presence in the vehicle charging market. The company’s collaboration with automakers underscores its strategy of leveraging partnerships to expand its reach and impact potential in the EV ecosystem.

As the global market gradually shifts towards greener alternatives, the provision of accessible and efficient charging solutions is crucial. These stations exemplify a successful collaboration, working to eliminate the barriers that might deter consumers from making the switch to electric vehicles.

With Toyota’s Empact vision leading the charge, and partners like EVgo ensuring operational effectiveness, the future of sustainable transportation looks promising. The endeavor not only creates practical infrastructure improvements but also positions EVs as a viable option for a more extensive demographic, promoting environmental responsibility and economic inclusivity.

Ultimately, EVgo and Toyota’s cooperative efforts set a benchmark for how private and corporate initiatives can align towards achieving greener, more sustainable urban mobility solutions.
