Collective Studios’ Historyverse announces Vikram Betal, an AI powered show reimagining India’s storytelling tradition

Collective Studios’ Historyverse has unveiled “Vikram Betal,” an AI-enabled series that revives the classic tales of King Vikramaditya and Betal for a generation fluent in streaming, social, and smart devices. The project blends contemporary filmmaking with emerging technologies to preserve the heart of the original stories—moral quandaries, philosophical intrigue, and timeless wisdom—while packaging them for modern audiences.

Why it matters

The Vikram–Betal canon has shaped Indian storytelling for centuries, inspiring critical thinking through layered dilemmas and open-ended questions. By infusing AI into the creative pipeline, Historyverse aims to expand the visual and narrative vocabulary of these stories without losing their cultural integrity. It’s a bid to prove that heritage and high tech can coexist—and even elevate each other.

What’s new

  • AI-first production: The series will be developed by Galleri5, Collective Studios’ AI storytelling studio, to explore new visual approaches while maintaining rigorous narrative authenticity and cultural research.
  • Education built in: Birla Open Minds joins as Knowledge Partner, aligning the show’s cultural goals with classroom learning and youth engagement.
  • Hands-on learning: Students across the Birla Open Minds network will gain exposure to real-world creative workflows—from ideation to AI-assisted production—through curated interactions and behind-the-scenes sessions.

The story behind the story

At its core, Vikram Betal is a dialogue-driven tradition: a king faces riddling parables posed by a wily spirit, each episode concluding with a moral twist. That narrative engine maps neatly to today’s interactive sensibilities and algorithmic media habits. By channeling AI for concept art, previsualization, and iterative world-building, the team can prototype versions of scenes, tones, and character designs more rapidly—then refine them with human-led editorial judgment and cultural oversight.

What they’re saying

“Through Historyverse, our vision is to bring India’s rich history, folklore, and storytelling traditions to new audiences in formats that feel contemporary and engaging. Vikram Betal is a perfect example of an enduring IP that continues to spark imagination and critical thinking. Our partnership with Birla Open Minds allows us to extend this journey into education, creating meaningful ways for young learners to connect with India’s cultural heritage through the power of storytelling.”

— Vijay Subramaniam, Founder and Group CEO, Collective Artists Network

“We believe education should connect students with both cultural heritage and emerging technologies. The Vikram Betal project brings these two worlds together by reimagining one of India’s most iconic storytelling traditions through the use of Artificial Intelligence. It offers students a unique opportunity to engage with creativity, technology, and storytelling while remaining connected to the cultural foundations that continue to shape generations.”

— Nirvaan Birla, Managing Director, Birla Open Minds

How the tech fits

Rather than replacing human craft, the production’s AI layer is positioned as an accelerator for concept development, visual experimentation, and scale. Expect AI-assisted pipelines to help the team iterate on mood boards, environments, and character motifs, while writers and researchers ensure fidelity to source material and regional nuances. The promise: richer world-building, faster look development, and more room for creative risk—without losing the curiosity and ethical complexity that define Vikram–Betal.

Education meets entertainment

The Birla Open Minds partnership brings a classroom-first lens to the initiative. Workshops, mentorship sessions, and behind-the-scenes access are designed to demystify how AI participates in storytelling—from data-informed ideation to final polish—so students can critically engage with both the possibilities and responsibilities of the technology.

The big picture

“Vikram Betal” sits within Historyverse’s expanding slate of culturally rooted projects that use modern formats to revisit historical and mythological narratives. If executed well, it could serve as a blueprint for regional IP revival—balancing authenticity with the efficiencies and visual range of AI-enabled production.
