OnePlus 15R Gets Surprising RAM Upgrade Right When Everyone Else is Downsizing
OnePlus has quietly introduced a new variant of the OnePlus 15R in India, adding a substantial memory upgrade while maintaining the same core hardware as the original model. The new configuration ships with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, priced at INR 61,999, roughly $657 based on current exchange rates. The chipset remains the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and the device still packs a large 7,400mAh battery.
This kind of RAM bump is unusual in today’s market, where global component shortages have driven many brands to trim specifications. The new Indian edition targets users who push multitasking, on-device AI workloads, or intensive gaming, offering ample headroom without chasing the most expensive flagship tiers.
What’s inside
Inside, the phone keeps its flagship-grade internals. The processor remains the high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, paired with a 165Hz AMOLED display capable of bright, vivid visuals up to 3,600 nits, and fast charging through 80W. Memory and storage have been upgraded to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, delivering a notably more capable package for those who push their device.
In India, the 16GB/512GB edition is priced at INR 61,999. For comparison, the 12GB RAM variants were previously offered at INR 54,999 and INR 59,999 locally.
Availability and outlook
Currently, this enhanced configuration is listed only for the Indian market. There has been no official confirmation about a wider rollout, including a possible release in the United States. By way of reference, the US lineup includes a 12GB + 512GB variant priced around $799.99 and a 12GB + 256GB option at about $699.99.
Industry observers note that the brand has been recalibrating its global footprint, trimming some regional operations and adjusting distribution in key markets. Ongoing component constraints and broader price pressures on older devices have also shaped regional pricing and availability strategies.
