Don Carroll Booker

On the first day of February, 2025, the world bid farewell to Don Carroll Booker, aged 81, who peacefully passed away in Sugarland’s Kindred Hospital following a serious illness.

A gathering to honor Don’s life is scheduled at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 5. Friends and family are welcome to join from noon onwards, with the funeral service commencing at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Following the service, Don will be laid to rest at Faulkenberry Cemetery.

Born in Blanco, Texas on November 1, 1943, Don’s life began under the care of Arita Smith Booker and D.C. Booker. Just missing a Halloween birthday by mere minutes, Don joyfully celebrated both on October 31 and November 1 throughout his life. During his youth, he frequently changed schools, adapting to different environments as his father worked in road construction—an industry Don himself first ventured into. He finished his early education at Groesbeck High School.

Highlighting his dedication to his country, Don served as a proud member of the Air Force from March 1963 until March 1967. His service took him to Germany, where he developed a fascination for computers and computer programming—a passion he pursued academically at the University of Texas in Austin after his honorable discharge.

Don’s professional journey led him to become a notable software developer, crafting programs for various city and county offices across Texas. Offices in cities such as Denton, Greenville, Brownsville, Columbus, and Wharton effectively benefited from his innovative solutions. His knack for comprehending the intricate business requirements of these institutions allowed him to create software that was not only efficient but also ahead of its time.

Residing in Wharton brought immense joy and a community of supportive friends, including Ronnie, Sharon, Desi, Susan, Harold, and others who enriched Don’s life. Their generosity enabled him to enjoy an independent lifestyle, which he cherished. Conversations with friends, both offline and online, were of great significance to him. A lover of sports, Don enjoyed the vibrancy of football and baseball games. He indulged himself in culinary experiments, reveling in the world of flavors that cooking and food provided. Whether it was his friends, family, or friendly creatures, Don had an affinity for sharing kindness and affection with everyone and everything around him.

Don leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bryan Waller. He is preceded in death by his father DC Booker, his mother Arita Booker, his brother Robert Booker, and his former spouse Jean.

To honor Don’s loving nature, it is requested that acts of kindness be extended to the elderly. Such compassion marked Don’s life profoundly, serving as a testament to the goodwill that he valued deeply.

Those who wish to share their condolences are invited to visit the site of Groesbeck Funeral Home, where messages for the family can be left, ensuring that memories of Don’s life and legacy continue to be cherished by those who knew him.
