Odisha-Singapore Sign Eight Pacts on Day 1 of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s Visit

The Odisha Government has successfully forged eight significant partnerships with Singapore-based corporations, marking a landmark occasion in the realms of skill development, semiconductor technology, sustainable energy, green hydrogen and ammonia, industrial park progress, sustainable insure-tech, and urban development planning.

This series of agreements was formalized in the presence of Singapore’s President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, alongside Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. President Shanmugaratnam’s visit is notable as he is the first national leader to visit Odisha, and he was greeted warmly upon his arrival by Chief Minister Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state cabinet ministers, and senior officials.

During discussions, Chief Minister Majhi detailed Odisha’s ambitions in sustainable development and technological advancements. Highlighting the importance of these new collaborations, he stated, “These partnerships shall pave the way for enhanced global investment and expedite Odisha’s trajectory towards becoming a developed state entrenched in technology, education, and renewable energy. These bilateral relationships are anticipated to bring substantial benefits to the state.”

In efforts to broaden technical education and training systems, the state’s Skill Development and Technical Education (SD&TE) department signed an agreement with ITE Education Services (ITEES), which operates under Singapore’s Ministry of Education. This partnership aims to enhance the capabilities of the World Skill Centre (WSC) in Bhubaneswar and establish a global hub for IT and ITES excellence, focusing on key areas like cybersecurity, cloud computing, blockchain, the internet of things, and data science.

President Tharman visited the cutting-edge facilities at the WSC, where he engaged with students and instructors. He commended Odisha’s dedication to fostering innovation and technical proficiency. The state-of-the-art labs received high praise, setting a benchmark for future technological education and collaboration.

These strategic agreements are expected to significantly contribute to Odisha’s growth, drawing international interest and promoting innovation in vital sectors. As both parties move forward, the focus will be on leveraging these collaborations to create a robust foundation for a sustainable and technologically advanced future.
